Practical Management for IT and Telcomms Online (PMITT Online)
Significance
This course seeks to address the management crisis that is facing
Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and Small Medium and Micro Enterprises
(SMEEs) in the IT and telecommunications sectors by developing the
skills necessary for their effective participation in this expanding
and critical area of the economy. It is also designed with managers
in government and parastatals in mind who are responsible for managing
the information and communication systems within their organisations,
By the end of the programme participants will have an understanding
of the critical management functions in the telecommunications and
IT tendering and outsourcing processes. Using an interactive and
intensive on-line teaching methodology it is geared towards those
whom, because of the nature of their business, find it impossible
to attend face-to-face training during working hours. The course
allows the participant flexibility without losing any of the rigour
and engagement of conventional training.

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the participants will:
successfully prepare tenders/offers that results in being
awarded contracts and complete them to satisfaction of the customer;
analyse the economic viability of projects;
prepare a quality manual for handing internal and external
processes
Content
The course is divided into the following three modules:
Module 1: Procurement process, tenders and offers
- Analyse, describe procurement process, interpret tenders
etc.
- Analyse tender evaluations process, technical specs, etc.
- Organisation of internal work quality aspects.
- The module includes case studies and examples from telecom
sector.
Module 2: Managing and Administering contracts
- Monitor and control the implementation, site supervision
- Understand organisation structures, admin interfaces etc.
- Efficient follow-ups, budget controls, detailing project
plans.
Module 3: Economic and financial viability
- Practise sensitivity analysis and describe rationalisations
- Calculate and Analyse the viability of telecom/IT projects
- Selection process of viable projects.
Further modules coming online in the course of the year
include Quality Management, Project Management and Pricing.
Cost
Each module can be completed separately at a cost R2000 per module
or R6000 for all three modules.
Duration
The course will start in March and run through to November. Only
10 people can be on the course at the same time and participants
will have to complete the course within three months of registration.
